Double Opt-in Account settings
Customise the Double Opt-in confirmation email and landing page that visitors see when subscribing
Double Opt-in (DOI) is a two-step subscription flow: a visitor opts in, then receives a confirmation email asking them to confirm before being added to the subscription list. The Double Opt-in tab inside a Section is where you customise the confirmation email and the page visitors land on after confirming β both branded to fit the Section.
π‘ This article is about the templates, not the toggle
This article covers the shared templates (email design and confirmation page) that any DOI-enabled form submission for consent in the Section will use. For enabling DOI, see Double Opt-in.

What Double Opt-in is and why it matters
Double Opt-in adds a confirmation step between someone indicating they want to subscribe and them actually being subscribed. The flow looks like this:
A visitor enters their email on a Form.
Their Profile is created with a Pending Opt-in consent status β they're not yet receiving any sendings.
They receive a confirmation email asking them to confirm.
When they click the confirmation link, their consent status flips to Opt-in and they land on a confirmation page.
From that point on, they receive emails to that Subscription as normal.
If they never click confirm, their consent stays Pending Opt-in indefinitely β and they never receive sendings.
You can use segment builder to find and delete any pending profiles, as well as tracking the trend of confirmed double opt-ins:

π‘ Why use Double Opt-in?
Three reasons: it filters out typos and fake email addresses (only real, working inboxes complete the flow); it's required by law in some jurisdictions (e.g. Germany, parts of the EU under stricter interpretations of GDPR); and it generally improves engagement metrics, because the resulting list is filled with people who actively wanted in.
How DOI flows through a subscription
Where it's enabled | What happens |
Per Section, in Account settings (this article) | You design the confirmation email and confirmation page. These templates are shared across every DOI-enabled Form for consents in the Section. |
In each Apsis form you use to collect consents | Activate double opt-in when creating the form. |
How to access Double Opt-in settings
Click your Profile Icon and go to Settings.
Open the Section whose DOI templates you want to customise.
In the inner left menu, click Double Opt-in.
β
The Double Opt-in confirmation email
The confirmation email is what new subscribers receive immediately after opting in. It contains the confirmation link they need to click to complete subscription.
Preview or edit the email
Click Preview to see the current design without making changes.
Click Edit to open the Email Editor and customise it.
The Email Editor works the same way as for any other email β drag elements, change copy, adjust styling, brand it for your Section. Just make sure the confirmation link stays in the email β without it, recipients have nothing to click to confirm.
π¨ Don't remove the confirmation link
The Double Opt-in flow only works if the recipient clicks the confirmation link in the email. If you accidentally delete the button or link element, every new subscriber will be stuck in Pending Opt-in forever and never start receiving your communications. Always preview after editing and verify the link is present.
β Tips for an effective confirmation email
Subject line should be unmistakable. "Please confirm your subscription" beats "Welcome!" β recipients shouldn't have to guess what action is needed.
One clear call to action. A single confirmation button is better than a wall of marketing copy.
Brand it for the Section. Recipients should recognise the sender β the email's design should match your Section's other communications.
Keep it short. A long, beautifully designed email risks the confirmation link getting lost. Two paragraphs is plenty.
The Double Opt-in confirmation page
After clicking the confirmation link, the new subscriber lands on a confirmation page that confirms their subscription was successful. You customise this page in the Double Opt-in tab the same way as the email β Preview to view, Edit to change.
β Tips for the confirmation page
Acknowledge clearly. "You're subscribed!" or "Welcome aboard!" β make it obvious the action worked.
Set expectations. Tell them what to expect next (frequency, content type, sender) so the first newsletter doesn't feel out of nowhere.
Give them somewhere to go. A link back to your homepage or relevant content β don't leave them on a dead-end page.
Settings are shared across the Section
β οΈ One DOI template per Section
The DOI confirmation email and confirmation page are Section-wide β every DOI-enabled Subscription within the Section uses the same templates. If you have multiple Subscriptions in the same Section that need different confirmation experiences (e.g. different brands), either keep the templates generic enough to work for all of them, or split them into separate Sections.
This is one of the cases where multi-Section setups pay off: a multi-brand account that wants brand-specific DOI experiences should typically run each brand as its own Section.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Likely cause | Fix |
New subscribers aren't receiving any emails after signing up | Subscription has DOI on but they haven't clicked the confirmation link. | Check their consent status in Audience. If "Pending Opt-in", they need to confirm. The confirmation email may be in their spam folder. |
Confirmation email looks broken or unbranded | The default template hasn't been customised for the Section. | Open the Double Opt-in tab and click Edit to customise the email design. |
Two brands in one Section need different DOI experiences | DOI templates are shared Section-wide. | Either keep the template generic, or split each brand into its own Section. |
Confirmation link in the email doesn't work | The link element may have been accidentally removed or modified. | Preview the email and confirm the confirmation link is present and intact. If not, restore the default template or re-add the link. |
Edit option is greyed out | You don't have Account Owner or Admin User rights. | Ask an Admin User or Account Owner to customise the templates. |
