With Profiles you can follow and analyse all customer and subscriber interactions. Identify Unknown website visitors through cookies, and gradually populate your Profiles with behavioral data from all of your channels and touch-points.

What are Profiles?

Profiles are containers of data created and assigned to individuals that interact with your brand, which can either be Unknown or Known. They contain four types of data: Attributes, Events, Tags and Consent.

All personal data, of course, has been provided with individual's explicit consent.


Profile Types

We mentioned above there are two types of Profiles: Known and Unknown. Profile types are not static, these types simply show at what point they are in their journey with your brand, or the status of their relationship with your business.

Unknown Profiles are created for anonymous visitors, and Known Profiles are created for those who provide an email address or mobile number. Unknown Profiles can be identified as they opt-in to your communications in different ways, and confirm their online identity by returning to your website.

Ideally, Unknown Profiles become Known as you create more opportunities for visitors to sign up to your Email or SMS communications in your website and bring them back from an Email or SMS. When they opt-in and engage with your messages, their Unknown and Known Profiles merge!

This happens continuously. So there's no need to focus only on merging Profiles. The focus is on building rich, comprehensive Known Profiles that have the most information about their relationship with your brand, so that you can provide them with relevant, valuable content.

Unknown Profiles

Unknown Profiles are those created for visitors who, despite not giving any personal or contact information, have given you consent to collect their cookies. They do not contain an email address, phone number or a CRM-id.

The data belonging to these Profiles is collected via their cookie consent, so despite them not having completed any steps that would allow you to acquire personal information (like completing a purchase and providing an Email, name, address, etc.) the data associated with their browser history and website interaction can be saved and associated with a Profile. APSIS One users can communicate with Unknown Profiles through existing and upcoming Website tool activities.


Known Profiles

These are created for visitors who contain an Email address, phone numbers or a CRM-id. Contrary to Unknown Profiles, Known Profiles are not dependant on cookie consent; if they do provide cookie consent, their engagement with your website will be recorded as well.


Put simply, Channel Consent signals whether the Profile contains the required permissions for you to send them email or SMS communications, and for what purpose.

Once a person opts-in to your communications, consent for that channel is added to their Profile. In turn, the Topic(s) in the Consent list gain a record of their address so that they're included in your next sending.

When a person subscribes to your communications, they do so willingly and with a purpose. They want to receive email messages every week with your latest offers, or perhaps they're only interested in SMS updates about the services you offer year-round.

In their Profile, you can see what they subscribed to: the Topic and Channel Consent.

In the Topic inside the Consent list, you can see who has subscribed to the communications related to the topic.

What about Consent list and Topics?

Consent lists are made to keep track of your subscribers' consent and organise them, and Topics are created within lists to be able to categorize them according to their preferences.

In Profiles, you will be able to see on which Consent lists the Profile has opted in and which Topics they've subscribed to. Don't forget that SMS and Email opt-in always occurs in Topic level.


About Double Opt-in and Pending Status

If you have an active Website tool Signup bar, visitors can opt-in to your communications as they browse through your website.

In the Signup bar messaging settings, you have the possibility to enable Double Opt-in, which allows you to confirm the subscription of those Profiles who opt-in to your communications by providing their Email consent.


For your confirmation email and page to match your branding guidelines, you must head over to Account Settings and adjust your Double Opt-in options.

Once a visitor has provided their email consent they will receive an email message where they are asked to confirm their subscription.

Until they've confirmed their subscription, their Profile will show their email channel consent as pending.

Profiles with a Pending Opt-in Email type of consent will not receive any of your sendings until they confirm their subscription.
